Way back in 2013 Set to Stunning posed a challenge; wear something a little nerdy each day in November. I didn’t participate in Nerdvember then or any year since basically because I wasn’t confident enough to do so. I’ve been working on that. So this year despite the fact that the competition is well and truly over, I finally participated in Nerdvember and wore something a little geeky each day of November!
Day 1 – Batman
I started Nerdvember off subtle because I wasn’t sure I could go the whole month wearing something nerdy each day. Day 1 I wanted to wear my favorite pendant from Guild Jewellery; my Harvey Dent/Twoface coin. I paired it with my amazing Batman silhouette pin from Evergood Merch, Batman socks and an entirely black outfit and felt quite Batman-y! Especially when I used my massive grey scarf as an impromptu cape!
Day 2 – Southern Cross
For the second day I went for the subtle approach again, this time wearing a pin from the trippy horror Image comic Southern Cross. I wore a flight badge from Yesterdays and a necklace of a very different kind of ship that I picked up in a market whilst traveling in Wales. Today has taught me that I have a serious hole in my wardrobe where it comes to space themed necklaces and scarves that I need to look into immediately!
Day 3 – Captain Marvel
For casual Friday at work on the third day of Nerdvember I decided it was time to be Captain Marvel. It’s always wonderful to be Captain Marvel, even just a little bit. She gives me a little boost and an extra spring in my step. I wore my For Fans By Fans (We Love Fine) Captain Marvel jumper and my totally awesome Star Wars socks with Captain Phasma on them because I thought Carol might approve.
Day 4 – How To Train Your Dragon
First day of the weekend and fourth day of Nerdvember was all about video games and crafting, more crafting than anything else if I’m honest! But both required the optimism and ingenuity I was attempting to channel from How To Train Your Dragon. Of course I went for half viking and half dragon with the outfit for the best of both worlds! My awesome dragonskin leggings are from Wild Bangarang and come in all the colours! I have three of them and I love them dearly. On the viking side of the equation, my totally awesome and highly historically inaccurate viking hat was picked up in the gift shop if the Royal Armories Museum in Leeds and the “Lose the Fear” advice pin was from Asilda Store.
Day 5 – Harley Quinn
The fifth day of Nerdvember was all about Harley Quinn. Shoes, socks, leggings, badge, necklace, scarf, earrings, all of them had her face or her colours or her iconic diamond symbols. I was unaware that I owned this many wearable Harley Quinn things! I’ve never put them all together in one outfit before. Today’s outfit was a whole lot of fun! The earrings and badge were gifts from dear friends, the shoes are converse, the socks were from Loot Crate, the necklace is another amazing piece from Guild Jewellery, and the leggings I picked up at a convention long enough ago that I have no idea who might have been responsible for making them! And I’m pretty sure this isn’t all of my Harley Quinn stuff. May have to give her another shot a little later in the month!
Day 6 – Silk
Tomorrow is a public holiday, so it’s casual day at work for us poor suckers who had to show up. Took the opportunity to wear my awesome Silk jumper from For Fans By Fans (We Love Fine) before the weather warms up later this week.
Day 7 – Lightsabers
For the last day of the first week of my little Nerdvember I decided to go with a slightly more girly outfit. I rarely wear skirts, but I adore them. Particularly this one from Her Universe because its just too cute! Look at all it’s light sabers!
That’s it for the first week of Nerdvember! I’ll post the outfits I manage to put together at the end of each week this month. So far this challenge has been heaps of fun, I’m really looking forward to putting together ore outfits!
