Have passed the halfway point in my Nerdvember challenge and I’m still having heaps of fun! I’m very much enjoying having conversations with people about accessories and clothing as well as the show or book they come from or are inspired by. It has been an absolute highlight of Nerdvember so far for colleagues and friends to greet me with something along the lines of “so what are you wearing today?”
Day 15 – Tinker Bell
For the first day of Nerdvember this week I took inspiration from the cheeky Tinker Bell. The centerpiece of my outfit were the earrings from Disney Couture with Tinker Bell herself lounging in the ring. I added in my ship coin necklace from a market in Wales and the completely adorable star pins from MoPins. I attempted a pouty Tinker Bell expression, but I must admit I do like the smiling selfie a little more.
Day 16 – Ravenclaw
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra did a performance of Harry Potter and the Pholosipher’s Stone and I was lucky enough to be able to attend during my Nerdvember challenge! This means that I was able to do a daytime look and a nighttime look for a Ravenclaw. During the day I wore a Ravenclaw house cardigan and pin, but had a costume change at the end of work. I had no idea what to wear so decided to try out a tunic pattern I have been meaning to tackle for a long time. I don’t think it turned out too badly! And it does look a little bit like wizarding formal robes, particularly with the addition of a more stylish Ravenclaw pin. For the whole day I was able to wear my Elder Wand pendant to keep a link between the two outfits. All the jewelry and the cardigan are from the Harry Potter Studio in London.
Day 17 – Guardians of the Galaxy
For the second day of creative outfitting for the week I took inspiration from Guardians of the Galaxy and was able to wear the space skirt I made out of awesome quilting fabric. I also sewed the patches onto the cardigan for a slightly more subtle Starlord jacket. All of the jewelry came in Marvel blind boxes or other trinkets picked up at conventions.
Day 18 – Spider-Gwen
Spider-Gwen has one of the best costumes in all of comics! I love wearing this outfit, it’s not a new one for Nerdvember, but it is such a joy to wear that I had to include it.
Day 19 – Green Lantern
The 19th day of my Nerdvember challenge was a long day. I flew from Melbourne to Adelaide in the morning to attend the Supanova Expo and meet Kamui Cosplay who is amazing and I was extremely excited to meet. Didn’t wear a costume because of the flight, but did take inspiration from Green Lantern with my amazing Guild Jewellery pieces and my cool green Wild Bangarang leggings.
Day 20 – Sailor Mars
When I was growing up I used to get up early to tape Sailor Moon because I left for school too early to watch it when it was on, but would watch it as soon as I was able to on the way home. Sailor Mars was always my favorite. I based today’s Nerdvember outfit around the Sailor Mars cameo necklace I picked up at a convention. I paired it with my firey Wild Bangarang leggings, the matchstick pin I found in a museum gift shop, and my 1606 Supply Co “do no harm, take no shit” pin which perfectly encapsulates Rei’s attitude.
Day 21 – Lord of the Rings
Wearing Wild Bangarang leggings for the third day in a row! This time they’re armor for an adventure in the world of the Lord of the Rings. Two pins, one for adventure from Asilda Store, and one for home from The Clever Clove. The Evenstar pendant is from Weta Workshop.
This week was a little tricky as I had an event I wanted to dress nicely for, then I went on an interstate trip to Adelaide where the temperature was way above comfortable, but I feel like I was able to throw together some great outfits none-the-less. Bring on the last week (and a bit) of Nerdvember!
