The Sartorial Geek Fashion Fix Challenge is back! Woo! First one for a shiny new decade. I love a good challenge, and I had a lot of fun with this one. Even though it was a winter challenge and it’s the hottest time of the year in Australia.
But of course this kind of challenge leaves room for your creativity, so you can take any which way you like! So season isn’t so important, which is nice, because even looking at winter clothing at the moment makes me feel uncomfortably hot..
The categories this time were interesting and made me think a lot about all the fandoms I love. Was a great thing to occupy my brain for the week!

Blue Monday
Day one is Blue Monday, and the first geeky thing that comes to mind when I think of the colour blue is the TARDIS. I love Doctor Who because it’s silly and full of adventures and hope and endless possibilities. Plus who wouldn’t run off with a TARDIS if the opportunity presented itself?! Also, I had dance class tonight and really really wanted to wear my space skirt. Because space.
I started ballet recently, so marvel at my beginner-y technique! I am terrible at dance, but it’s so much fun! And I’m getting better slowly the more practice I get.
My earring is a replica of the 13th Doctor’s earring she wears in the show made by the same jeweller that produced the one for the BBC. It is amongst my most treasured geeky possessions and I get quite a thrill from wearing it!
The quote on this tee from the 9th Doctor is “we’re falling through space, you and me”, and it’s something I think about a lot. The universe is so big and we’re so tiny and somehow I find that wonderful. It’s such an amazing scary thing to be a part of….
- Tee is from Jordandené
- Leggings from Wild Bangarang
- 13th doctor earring from Alex Monroe
- Shoes from Bloch
- And I made my awesome space skirt!

Snow Day
Day 2 of the challenge is Snow Day. Here in Australia it’s summer, so this theme absolutely made me chuckle! But it gave me a wonderful reason to put together a look inspired by Anna. Being the summer sister in Frozen, I felt that worked pretty well!
I love Anna’s bubbly personality and determination to help others so much. She’s my favourite sister in Frozen (sorry Elsa!) and I’d love to be able to channel her general optimism more often.
And of course this was a wonderful opportunity to not only wear fab Anna pins, but also my little red shawl-cape-thingie! Any opportunity to rock a cape is a good one.
- Brooches from Rocklove Jewellery
- And I made my little red cape!

Fictional Crush
Day 3 of the challenge is fictional crush, which was the one I had the least idea about when I started out. This theme is slightly tricky as I never really want characters as much as I want to be them. However, Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle is pretty awesome, so today’s theme is dedicated to him. Like Howl I’m a cluttered disaster human who likes to avoid going to work, so we’d make an interesting whirlwind of a couple!
In the future I’d love to make a version of the jacket Howl wears at the start of the movie to pair with this lovely Jewelry. But for now the lovely colours of this beautiful old scarf will do. I love how the pink and green in the scarf has almost faded out completely, and it reminds me a little of the clouds that Howl’s castle travels through.
- Jewelry is from the Ghibli Museum
- Scarf is a gift from a lovely friend a long time ago

My Fair Lady
The theme for day 4 of the challenge was My Fair Lady, so I tried a subtle nod towards Maleficent, because her being referred to by anyone as “my fair lady” makes me giggle. Today was also a sewing day at the Vanyanis studio and I got to spend most of the day admiring this beautiful gown that I could absolutely see Maleficent wearing. One day I’d love to level up my sewing to a point where I can make something similar to this. But for today I’m covered in thread from mock ups and happy to be learning new sewing things.
I really wanted to showcase my adorable Maleficent dragon wing earrings, but just wearing earrings isn’t nearly extra enough for her. So I added a few pins and mixed in some fun black dragon leggings. Added bonus was that I was super comfy for a long day of sewing funtimes.
- Dragon wing earrings from Rocklove Jewellery
- Fairy pin from Jubly-Umph
- Sewing pin from Aimee Kitty
- Black dragon leggings from Wild Bang-a-rang

Girl Gang
These Sisters of Battle leggings are so cool, but I rarely get to wear them. Because skulls I suppose? I’m not sure. But today I wore them for day five of the challenge as the theme was Girl Gangs, and I can’t think of a more epic one than the Sisters.
Had a blast playing around with my phone’s auto photography function and dancing about like a kid. And in the end I got a bunch of photos that look like I’m getting closer…
This little badge is one of my older ones, so I’m not sure where I picked it up, but it’s so perfect to depict the corpse emperor! Also wore my shiny sword earrings, because I don’t have chain-sword ones, and I’m certain the Sisters would be able to cause the appropriate havoc with a sword!
Even though I’m mostly a Chaos player in Warhammer I can’t deny how cool the Sisters are. And wearing leggings with skulls just makes me feel like a badass!
- Leggings from Wild Bang-a-rang
- Sword earrings from La Vidriola
- The maker of the skull badge is lost to me through the mists of time…

Saturday Morning Cartoons
Second last day of the challenge is Saturday morning cartoons. One show I loved watching as a kid was Sailor Moon, so I chose to wear this fantastic iridescent transformation necklace. Pictures don’t do it justice! And as I was wandering around at an event all day I got to chat to lots of people about it who commented on it!
- Shiny necklace from La Vidriola

Me Party
Very last day of the challenge was Me Party, which was actually really challenging, because when I started to think what kind of clothing I usually wear I immediately forgot about every piece of clothing I own. But I asked my husband and he said to include something glittery, leggings and a cape. So…..
Sparkly shoes, space style Bitch Planet leggings, the tunic has pockets even though it does wreck the line of it (but pockets are life), the cape is a kimono cover I couldn’t afford to get when I was in Japan (but here we are anyways), the adorable Good Omens pins sit perfectly on the cape collar, and the snake necklace is a really cool thing I picked up as a teenager and have been wearing it ever since.
- Sparkly shoes from Sketcher
- Bitch Planet leggings from Bombsheller
- Good Omens pins from Pachiary
- Cape is second hand
Nothing really matches, my hair is very messy, and it’s a bit eclectic, but that’s accurate to me. Also, cape means spinning, so spinning video!
This week has been super busy, but I’m glad I participated in this challenge, it was so much fun, they always are! Looking forward to the next one.
