So I think it’s pretty well established that I love to play with nerd fashion challenges. So when Sartorial Geek announced their first ever Geek Fashion Fix Challenge it was like showing a kitten to a garden full of catnip.
The first week was the Nerd Prom; all about characters who were still in school. Which is most of comics! There were a wealth of choices for this challenge, and I managed to pull together two looks.
The first was all about the X-Men. I wasn’t aiming for any particular character, but then I remembered my amazing Nightcrawler pin from Shelby Wolf and paired it with my favourite blue scarf and it had to be Kurt. The “happily never after” pin from Kelly McMahon was a must too, because happy endings never happen in X-men.
The X-men school cardigan is a staple of my cooler months wardrobe as it’s comfy and I love the subtly geeky look. It came from a now re-named company known as We Love Fine, but I don’t think it’s available any more. My next cardigan came from them too!
My second outfit I wore to see the Spider-Man: Far From Home movie, so it was all about him! I love this Spider-Man cardigan, but I rarely get a chance to wear it as it’s so loud! I tend towards black and grey colours in my outfits mostly and this is very bright red. But, Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man cardigan, right? And I did manage to squeeze in my comfortable grey colour scheme with my beanie and ombre grey scarf.
Being that Australia is currently in winter not summer, I opted out of the summer part of this challenge, but it was lovely to see so many fun summery looks on the instagram hashtag. #sgfashionfix
It’s always great to have a prompt to build nerdy outfits around. I find I always have a bunch of fun with challenges like this as it points my creativity in a less random direction. I’m looking forward to the second week of the challenge!
