#WICFest

The All Star Womens’ Comic Book Club Women in Comics Festival, or WICFest, was a magical event organised by the lovely founders of the All Star Womens’ Comic Book Club. The festival brought together lovely talented women to chat and make art all weekend, it was an amazing experience!

The festival was held over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of December, and I was very glad to be able to help out on the second day to smile and wave and talk to people all about comics and the All Star Comics Women’s Comic Book Club. I even got to hand out stickers!During this festival I saw all different types of people come into the store to get excited about comics. Some were obviously comfortable in a comic book store, others said this is the first time they had ever been into one, some had traveled from a long way away to get to the festival, others were local. Most of all it was wonderful to speak to such a variety of women who said they hadn’t realised so many other women liked comics or made comic book art. It really drove home that comics are for everyone and everyone should have a chance to participate.

I spoke to women about our comic book club, about their favourite comic book character, about which comics to try out first, about themes in comic books, about representation in comics,  and about the joy comic books can bring in all sorts of different ways. And I gave everyone a sticker, including the wonderful creators who brought so much energy to the day!

I had such a wonderful time. I very much hope the festival will be held again next year!

There was also loot! And much love to the creators for providing such an exciting variety of wonderful creations!

Here are all the amazing creators that attended on the day, provided on the WICFest facebook event page, I’m just not talented enough to work out how to embed it properly…
